Welcome to Victoria Square in Markham Ontario
The community of Victoria Square is bounded by 19th Avenue (north), Warden Avenue (east), Hwy 404 (west), and Elgin Mills Road East (south). It is mostly rural in the north and has lots of newly developed areas, especially in the southern end along Woodbine Avenue and the Woodbine Bypass.
The community of Victoria Square was formed in the early nineteenth century. The first church (Primitive Methodist) was built in 1830s on the east side of 4th Line, where the cemetery is still located. The Wesleyan Methodists built a wood-frame church south of the Victoria Square corner in 1845. This was replaced by a red brick edifice in 1880. Victoria Square's post-office was opened in 1854. Today you'll also find Victoria Square Park and Community Centre in the heart of this area.
There are some well known sites in this community, one of them being Fletcher's Fields Rugby club. Fletcher's Fields has six rugby fields and is home to several highly competitive clubs, plus home to Rugby Ontario and the Toronto Xtreme.
