Welcome to Rouge Fairways
Rouge Fairways is an upscale, planned community located in east Markham, Ontario. It's northern boundary runs alongside the Markham Green Golf Course which is part of the Rouge River Valley. In 1950, Markham Green was known as the exclusive Box Grove Golf Club for Nelson M. Davis, one of Canada’s wealthiest men. He then sold it to IBM in 1967 and the course became the IBM Golf and Country Club. In 1992, the majority of the property was re-zoned for development and the valley portion of the course is now the Markham Green Golf Club, a par 35, 9 hole championship, public golf course, and part belongs to Parkview Golf Course.
Some of the local roads in the community retain links to the old golf course. The remaining farmland in the area has all but disappeared. The Rouge River cuts through the community and includes the village of Boxwood, Ontario.
