Welcome to Markham Centre in Markham Ontario

This new "downtown" area in Markham is located between Hwy 7 and 407 just west of Kennedy Rd and east of Warden Ave.  Markham Centre is designed to offer an urban lifestyle with all the features of a downtown, including many cultural, social and public amenities. 

This area is being developed as a vibrant, family-oriented people place with pedestrian friendly streets and lots of architectural character.  Three elementary schools are planned for families of Markham Centre along with one secondary school. 

The downtown core will include residential, retail, commercial, hospitality, entertainment and educational venues.  Already home to IBM, Motorola and Honeywell, the projected 41,000 residents and 39,000 employees will have easy access to rapid transit thereby connecting the surrounding neighbourhoods with the Civic Mall.

In 2003, Markham was given an award for excellence in sustainable community planning for Markham Centre.  This new centre will be integrated into the Rouge River setting and will feature an extensive network of interconnected parks and open spaces, complete with walking and biking trails while protecting the existing natural heritage of the area.
