2013 Santa Parade on Main Street Markham
Markham’s 41st Annual Santa Claus Parade on this weekend!
For as long as I can remember it hasn’t felt like the holiday season has truly arrived until the big man in red floated down Main Street Markham...and it's sure to be a smooth ride this year now that Main Street is finally paved!
This Saturday, November 30, the tradition continues! Starting at 11 a.m., over 100 floats and marching bands will head north up Main Street (Hwy 48) beginning at Hwy 7 and finishing at Bur Oak Ave. Depending on its speed, the entire parade passes by in about 60 minutes, so bring your lawn chairs, mittens, hot chocolate and settle in to enjoy the fun!
Honouring this year’s theme of “Goodwill Unto Others”, bring a new or gently used toy to the Christmas tree at 132 Robinson (2 lights north of HWY 7 on Markham Rd) right after the parade and get your picture taken with Santa. The toys collected will be donated to the Yellow Brick House, serving abused women and children in York Region.
Although there isn’t an app yet to follow Santa along his route, you can get event updates, a map of the route, and parking information online at www.markhamsantaclausparade.com and don’t forget to post your pictures and Twitter updates to @MarkhamSanta, @cityofmarkham or to me @johnprocenko.
And don’t forget the season kicks off the night before (Friday November 29th) on Main Street with the Festival of Lights. Free horse wagon rides, fire artists, fireworks and much more, from 6 to 9 p.m.
See you there!
