Midsummer in Markham: Events
We’ve blinked and it’s now August! Even as summer is winding down there is still lots to do around town. Midsummer in Markham is a vibrant time of concerts, festivals, events and family fun.
Add some jazz to your summer this weekend with the 17th Annual TD Markham Jazz Fest. On from August 14-17 it is known as one of the finer jazz fests in Canada with some of the great Jazz musicians from Canada, US and Cuba including Canadian Legend Bruce Cockburn.
Check out this year’s schedule for all the FREE fun concert locations including Main Street Unionville, Millennium Bandstand and various other “hot spots” around town for that real street concert vibe.
Don’t forget Opening Night at The Varley Art Gallery with Markham’s own Jackie Richardson.
Kids are really at the heart of Markham with 16th RBC Markham-Milliken Children's Festival. On Saturday, August 23, 2014 10AM to 6PM at Markham Civic Centre, this FREE festival offers a wide variety of entertainment, play zones, crafts and other outdoor activities for children aged two to twelve. This event keeps growing with record highs of over 30,000 families attending. Make sure you are one of them this year!
It’s happening rain or shine so make sure you are prepared for a full day of fun with the umbrellas and sunblock.
Weekly fun is going on until September in downtown Unionville with events like: Sundays Yoga in the Square, Wednesday Night Movies on Main, and Live music Thursday nights at the Millennium Bandstand.
Don’t forget to check out the new exhibition at the Markham Museum before it ends this month. Farm to Table - an exploration of food, technology, social impacts, how it’s grown and how we get it and how Markham moved from a farming to an urban community.
The dog days of may be done but there are still lots of summertime fun left!
