FALL FAMILY FUN IN MARKHAM
The Thanksgiving weekend is upon us and many of us are looking forward not only to a huge meal served with a heavy dose of football but also a chunk of family time during one of the prettiest seasons of the year.
What better way to enjoy family time then to get out and participate in some great local events! Need ideas? Here are some to get you started:
Whittamore’s Farm
Enjoy the beauty of the autumn harvest at one of Markham’s favourite farms. With the weekend Harvest Festivals, Pumpkinland and the new Jumbo Pumpkin and Corn Jumpers activities – there is no shortage of things for the whole family to do this Thanksgiving Weekend. Run through the corn maze, enjoy a hayride and don’t miss the Pumpkin Cannon show at noon, 2PM & 4PM.
OKTOBERFEST! Unionville
Spend your Thanksgiving Sunday the Bavarian way with the many tastes of Oktoberfest at the restaurants and the strolling musicians along the beautiful historic Main St. Unionville. Dust off your lederhosen and head to the bandstand for the Polka Maestre Band from noon to 4:30PM.
Markham YMCA
If Thanksgiving dinner left you feeling heavy or your family mantra is all about fitness, then head to the Y for some heart-rating racing fun. Get your recreational sports, swimming, step and sculpt groove on. Open from 8AM to 4PM on holiday Monday – the Y will help you work off that extra helping of mashed potatoes and get you back in fine form for the coming week!
Fall Foliage
One of the nicest family friendly activities (and a free one too!) is to grab your favourite hot beverage and a few snacks and head out to see the beauty of the leaves changing colour. Whether by car or on foot there are some great spots in Markham for taking in the splendor of the season. On foot enjoy the natural beauty of Milne Dam Park or Too Good Pond. If driving, head up north (Warden Ave, Kennedy Rd. or Hwy 48) and watch the kaleidoscope of colours at Bruce’s Mill Conservation Area in Stouffville.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
